The Best Laid Plans
Psalm 20:4
May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
This sounds great but you know there’s got to be a but right? How about…
Psalm 33:11
But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
That’s what happened to me yesterday. I got wrapped up in the plans for an event and I failed to pay enough attention to the details. The result… my plans fell apart. The blessing… God had a better plan. I had something laid out and scheduled. Instead, God provided an opportunity for a group of his daughters – and their children – to enjoy fellowship and encouragement. As an added bonus, He offered sunshine and warm temperatures! Thank you, Lord.
I was concerned that the ladies, who had made time in their busy schedules, would be disappointed in the mishappen field trip. Instead, they thanked me for the chance to get together. I thought that some of the children might complain about not getting to do the activity they had been anticipating. Instead, the older ones took charge of the younger ones and everyone enjoyed a scavenger hunt and time to run through the park. Thank you, Lord.
Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.
Too often, I get worked up when it doesn’t seem that my plans are going to come together. I should know, by now, that anything I turn over to the Lord is going to turn out as He plans – and that will always be the best thing that could happen.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
