This is the Day

Tweet tweet, chirp, trilllll….

Each morning for the last few weeks this is what I have woken up hearing.  Rain or shine the birds in the trees behind my house are celebrating each new day.

So, do I?

Every single day I hear those birds.  Every day do I sing out?  Do I proclaim the goodness of the day?  No, sadly I don’t.  I try but all to often it seems as though my rejoicing gets derailed by the burdens of the day.

Luke 12:24
Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

The birds are totally dependent on God, regardless of their circumstances.

If I sleep through the alarm, if the children won’t cooperate, if my husband and I are struggling to find common ground, if money is tight – all of these burdens should bring me closer to the Lord and not drive me further away.  If I place all my trust in Him then I will be able to rejoice in each day – just like the birds in my back yard.

Put it in perspective: If God is over all things then all things are under His care!  Hallelujah!

I especially enjoy the popular chorus from Psalm 118:24.

This is the day,
This is the day.
That the Lord has made,
That the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice,
Let us rejoice.
And be glad in it,
And be glad in it.
Oh this is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day,
This is the day.
That the Lord has made!

Today I will rejoice in the Lord… will you?
