When the Well Runs Dry

I looked back through my journal and realized that it has been over a month since I have written.  I have been so tired that day by day has been my limit.

Last week, I had the opportunity to take my oldest daughter on a trip to NYC.  After a three hour flight, we were totally removed from the burdens and responsibilities at home and were able to focus on our relationship and on recharging our batteries.

The goal of any vacation is to have fun and relax.  Visions of sunshine and fluffy clouds fill the days…unless you travel with me.  I seem to be a magnet for misadventure.  If it could go wrong on our trip, it did.

I forgot to bring our City Passes.  These are the ones we paid for in advance so that we could have free admission to many of the attractions in New York.

We got lost in the subway.

Our hotel room had fleas.

I got food poisoning.

We lost/misplaced our passports.

Some of our favourite attractions were no longer included in our City Passes.

Lightening storms delayed our flight so we sat on the tarmac and missed our connection in Toronto.

Are you seeing a pattern?  As thing after thing went wrong, we saw God working in every detail providing for us and opening alternative doors.

Our passes were replaced for free; a New Yorker helped us find our way to the right train; the hotel management moved us to a newly rennovated room; there was a pharmacy on the corner that sold Pepto Bismol; we found the passports; activities we planned to pay for were now included in the City Pass balancing out the difference; West Jet (the airline) gave us vouchers for a hotel and meals and flew us home on the first flight in the morning.

These may all seem like trivial everyday situations, but when they all took place in one week and while we were on vacation, we paid attention.  God was in every detail.

At our church, the children’s program regularly refers to God sightings.  Incidents when you can clearly see God at work in your life or in the lives around you.  We had a full week of God sightings.  By the middle of the week, I was so eager to write this message.

GOD IS IN THE DETAILS!

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the mundane, we miss the inspiration of everyday.  Step back for a minute and consider how God is working in the little things in your life and in your home.  Be refreshed knowing that His well of love will never run dry.  None of the things that went wrong on our trip were things that I would have chosen but each one of them was a tool, used by God to remind me of His ever-presence.

My well/life runs dry when I put the cover on and don’t allow God to rain/reign into it.  Today, I can praise God for the reminder that He is overflowing into my life and all I need to do is drink.

John 4:7-14
Now he [Jesus] had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritana]’>)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”K)’> Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading mark{background:transparent;border-style:solid;border-width:0}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading mark.kt-highlight{color:#f76a0c;}.kb-adv-heading-icon{display: inline-flex;justify-content: center;align-items: center;}.single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h1, .single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h2, .single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h3, .single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h4, .single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h5, .single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper h6 {margin: 1.5em 0 .5em;}.single-content .kadence-advanced-heading-wrapper+* { margin-top:0;}
