Middle of November, it’s balmy. The sun is shining, the air is fresh and the temperature is calling me outside. I was inspired to go for a walk. We live in a small community bordered by other small communities. There are lots of hills and, unless you are visiting, not really anywhere to go. It was a challenge trying to decide where I would walk but I laced up my sneakers (fresh and pristine from lack of use) and headed out.
The longer I walked, the better I felt. It was if the day was made especially for me. After about forty-five minutes, I had an urge. Any woman who has had a few children knows that you have to plan these excursions with bathrooms in mind. I was so taken with the day that I failed in the planning department. I watched for breaks in the wooded areas along the old back road I was walking but every copse of trees faced a home – it was as if they had been planned that way. By an hour into my walk, I felt as though I could float home. I was coming up on the little community recreation center. It was almost too much to hope. Rarely had I actually seen it open, but I set it as my goal and pushed forward. To my utter delight, and relief, the building was open. I made my way inside, was refreshed and ready to move on. All of a sudden, the lights went out. The building was silent. As I reentered the main area of the building, I discovered that they were locking up. The three minutes I needed were the last three minutes they were open. With a light heart and easy step, I resumed my walk, thanking God that He takes care of even the little things.
I believe that God held that door for me. I think that He was enjoying that day as much as I was and was enjoying it even more because I was thankful for it. It was a good reminder for me that God is in all the details of my life, no matter how small, and that I can always trust Him to provide exactly what I need.
Matthew 6:31-33
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.
