Rose coloured glasses
Recently, I was recalling some memories of our homeschooling journey. As I moved through them, one of the children sort of laughed and commented that he did not remember doing THAT.
This particular memory is one of my homeschool favourites and he didn’t remember. I began to wonder if the children really understood what an important time this is for our family and whether our time together is as valuable to them as it is to me.
The more I thought about it, the more I began to realize how like my relationship with God is my children’s relationship with me.
As the parent/care-giver/provider/counselor/doctor/nurse and resident distributor of hugs I am constantly focused on my love for my children. My children, on the other hand are centered around discovering their world, learning independence, making their own decisions, finding their own way.
I know that my children love me. I know that our family is important to them. Perhaps though, just as I can take my eyes off the incredible blessing of my relationship with the Lord, my children can forget or maybe even be unaware of the import of our relationship.
I’ve often chuckled over the anecdote, “The older I got, the more my mother knew.” Isn’t this also true of our understanding of God. The more we grow in Him, the more we realize how amazing He is!
Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
