Magic Formula Plant Food
While we were away this past weekend, I saw something that at first seemed really funny. After I thought about it for a while, though, it became much graver.
In the ladies’ restroom, on the counter, was a vase of flowers. Next to the vase was a bag. The label read, ‘Magic Grow Plant Food’ next line, ‘Once a Year Formula’.
“Sounds like pretty good plant food.” you may think. It is important to note here that the plants were synthetic!
No amount of plant food, least of all one dose a year, could make these flowers grow.
What a perfect picture of our lives. If we’re not real, not sincere, not honest in who we are, then we can’t grow. Going to church once a year won’t fix it. Reading our Bibles once a week won’t fix it.
We have a choice whether we are real in our Christian lives or not. We also have a choice on how often we feed our relationship with the Lord. How much do we really want to grow?
Luke 8:14
The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
Ephesians 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Hebrews 5:14
But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
James 1:4
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
