Messes strewn across every room, dishes piled in the sink, laundry heaped next to the washing machine…sometimes the inside of my home is a disaster! It seems as though no matter how hard I work at making things right, there is always another challenge waiting for me. The challenges can mount and grow until I feel buried underneath them.
As a stay at home mum, part of my job is making sure that my family has a home that is warm and welcoming, comfortable and safe. An environment of nurturing and growth. I do not always feel as though I have succeeded (in fact, I often fall very short of the mark). It is easy for me to become discouraged as the same messes re-sprout regardless of how many time I think I have pulled their roots.
Two weeks ago, this missive was left on the end of my bed (my unmade bed, incidentally):
When I was born
I knew I would have
The best parent’s
ever and you know
what I did and They
are the best Parent’s
anyone could ever ask
for! Roses are Red,
But voilets are blue,
This person Admires you.
Love your secert Admire
So, on a day when I really don’t feel like I’m doing a very good job, this is what I get. As you can imagine, my heart was moved and the messes and the challenges did not seem as big as they had just moments before. This was pure love being given to me despite my failures.
Although this letter came from a ‘secert admire’ I know who penned it. I also know the struggles I have been having with this child. Despite the recent frustration, her love for me and my love for her have not faltered.
I love it when God shows me something in this life that is a picture of my relationship with Him. He knows how messy my life is. He knows that I do not always do as I am told, He knows that He has had to discipline me lately/frequently. He knows that I really have no concept of how big His love is for me and yet He loves me.
Just like our relationships with our children, God wants us to love Him. My children know I fail and yet they look to me to be their comfort and their safe place. They trust that despite what they have done I will love them. How much more does our unfailing God love us?
Jeremiah 31:3
I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Psalm 136 tells us 26 times in 26 verses that, “His love endures forever.”
1 John 3:1
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
God wants you – regardless of the mess. He wants you to come to Him. He wants you to love Him. He loves you and wants to rejoice over you and give you His very best.
Zephaniah 3:17
The LORD you God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.
